Some rare collectables

That is a good idea. I saw some Seagull TLRs in Budapest some years ago. I guess these could be found in those former communist countries occasionally.

Here are some of the impossible to find rare Chinese cameas:

The well known "Five Goats", the nr.2 rarest TLR "Feng Guang", and the collector's dream Leica copy, the Dalai( only one camera is known to exist, and 12 cameras were made in Tianjin in 1955?).

Some fakes of rare Chinese cameras have appeared on the market in recent years. I wonder what would be the market price for this only real Dalai?

 

 

 

Zhujiang 120 folders(60-I,60-II)

I found these images of the elusive Zhujiang(Pearl River) 120 folders from a Chinese camera site. 海鸥相机owns these cameras. These were made in Guangzhou since 1960 in small numbers.

These cameras are quite rare. I only saw a few of these in worn conditions. They look similar to the July 1st camera made in Tianjin.

 

 

 

 

The 1000mm F10 mirror lens

This lens was mentioned in St Denny's book. Although it was sold for RMB 7,000 in mid 1980's. It was only a fraction of the price of the MF 1000mm F8 mirror lens in Hasselblad mount. There is even a 3000mm F13.5 mirror lens made for the same military applications. But I have never seen an image of that super rare and interesting lens.

This TW-III model 1000mm F10 weighs 3.7 KG!

LF lenses with shutters

Some factories also made LF lenses with imported Copal shutters, and later with home made shutters. These lenses were made in Shanghai and Beijing.

 

 

 

 

A Seagull 59-I? Not really. Only the lens hood is a Seagull item that suits well to the not so pretty I-50. It can also be used on those collapsible I-10, I-22, and I-50s.

 

A high speed camera

This camera is said for weapons testing ( trace of missiles and gun shells?). The owner did not disclose its specifications

 

 

 

A 50mm F1.3 movie lens

I have some weird Chinese 50mm lenses.
There is a rare Haiou-71 50/1.4 for Seagull DFAB, and a Great Wall 35DSJ 50 50mm F1.3 35mm movie lens. The 50/1.3 lens can be mounted a LTM rangefinder camera and focus to infinite. It is a 7E/6G lens of very high quality. These lenses are good for a RD-1 type digital rangefinder camera.

Changchun Nr.2 Optical Instrument Factory also made a 35mm cine lens, a JSD35-50 50mm F1.15 lens. This is a 8E/7G lens. Their 35mm cine 20mm F1.2 lens is a 12E/11G optic.

 

 

Here is a Huqiu 35-1 and Huqiu 35-1EE. I especially like the 35-1EE. It has a bright and contrasty view finder, a hand grip, a focusing lever, a build-in light meter, and a sharp 45/2.8 lens that could give the Nikon 50/1.8 lens a run. Both cameras are less common than a Phenix 205. The 35-1 EE was made in even smaller numbers. They are also smaller and lighter than a Seagull 205.

 

 

 

Haiou DFAB with 50/1.4 lens

I saw a Seagull DFAB on an auction site with a more common HAIOU-64 58/2 lens, and was estimated at about 700 euros. But a DFAB with a 50/1.4 lens is a much more rare camera. Perhaps only one in 15-20 cameras has a 50/1.4 lens.

 

 

 

Pearl River, another "Five Goats"

The earliest single format(6X6cm) Pearl River is the same camera as the "Five Goats". It has more metal parts, a Fresnel viewing screen, and Rollei bayonet filter mount. This type of early single format Pearl River was made in small numbers.

 

 

 

Great Wall 50MM T1.4(1.3), 2X teleconverter, and J-3

The front view of Great Wall cine 50MM T1.4(F1.3) and Jupiter-3. There is also a rare 2x teleconverter for cine lenses.

The 50/1.4 has excellent coatings.

 

 

 

Hua Zhong SF-3 TLR

This is another uncommon Chinese TLR. This is a later version of the Hua Zhong TLR made in small numbers with MC coated lenses and an imported 1/500 top speed Copal shutter. This is a "new in box "camera I bought some 10 years ago.

 

 

People who have freedom of choice, financial security, some education, plus a cultural environment that encourages individualism tend to be more creative IMHO.
Here is another example from a "creative Chinese".

A Chinese cine 35mm F1.28 lens mounted on a Strap lugged Zorki-1. IIRC, I am the 1st guy who strap-lugged a Zorki-1 and assembled a Kiev mount I-61 lens.

 

Pearl River S-207

Pearl River S-207 was built on imported Pentax K-1000 production line in late 1980's. First few hundred cameras were made with original CKD parts. It added a selftimer to a K-1000. Later it was further improved to have a silicon light cell with LED display and a new 50/1.7 sharp lens.

The brand name was changed to Mingca MCK-1000 due to a trade mark dispute with Guangzhou Camera factory that made Pearl River brand cameras back in 1950's. These are all metal, all manual of more reliable cameras than early Seagull DFs.

Like many Leica collectors, I still have 2 mint cameras that was never used. But I don't have to handle them with gloves on my hands, put them in a tight box, wrapped in plastic bags and kept them in a safe.
